Good conversations need boundaries

Safety and reporting on 1v1Roulette

Random video chat has a reputation, and some of it is earned. Here is what actually goes wrong on roulette-style sites, what 1v1Roulette does about each problem, and the limits of what any site can promise.

Is random video chat safe?

It depends far more on the site than on the format. Random video chat is risky where anyone can appear on camera anonymously, nothing happens when they are reported, and a banned user can simply come back. It is much safer where reports reach a person, removals stick, and you can leave instantly without explaining yourself.

1v1Roulette is built around the second kind: one person at a time, a Report control that is always visible, and permanent consequences for the people who break the rules. That lowers the risk; it does not remove it, and nobody honest will tell you otherwise. The rest of this page is the detail.

The real risks of chat roulette sites

  • Unwanted explicit content from someone you did not choose to meet.
  • Harassment, and people who reappear under a new account after being banned.
  • Recording: the other person capturing their screen.
  • Scams: requests for money, gift cards, or a move to another app.
  • Malicious links dropped into a chat.
  • Minors on platforms that do not take age seriously.

Each of these has its own answer below.

How reports are handled

Every call has a Report control, kept apart from Next so it is never pressed by mistake. A report made inside a call arrives with the conversation attached, and it is reviewed by a person, not only by a filter. You can also report a profile, a post or a message.

When an account is removed for breaking the rules, the removal is permanent: the same person cannot register again. That is the difference between a ban and a speed bump. Blocking someone is also permanent and takes effect immediately.

Who is on the other camera

Profile photos, avatars and nicknames are reviewed against the community guidelines, and accounts can be asked to verify with a short face video that has to match their photos. Fake photos, someone else's pictures and misleading profiles are removed.

A camera with no live picture, a black frame or a static image, is against the rules too. If the person on the other side will not show a live picture, press Next.

Explicit content

Explicit material is not permitted on camera, in photos or in posts, and broadcasting it closes the account. If you see it, you do not owe anyone a second look: press Report, then Next or Leave.

Recording and privacy in a 1v1 video chat

1v1Roulette does not record calls, and chat messages are not read routinely; only the part of a conversation that someone reported is reviewed. Recording the other person is against the rules and ends the account.

Be clear about the limit, though: one-on-one is a format, not a privacy guarantee. Nobody can technically stop the other person from pointing a second device at their screen. So keep your full name, address, workplace, passwords and payment details out of every conversation. The privacy policy covers what the site itself keeps.

Scams and money requests

  • Never send money, gift cards or crypto to anyone you meet, and never pay through an outside link.
  • Be wary of anyone who pushes you to move to another app or share your number in the first minutes.
  • Do not open links from strangers.
  • 1v1Roulette staff will never ask for your password or a verification code.

Asking someone to pay off the platform is itself against the rules. Report it. If you think your account or payment details are at risk, contact us straight away.

Age

Everyone on 1v1Roulette, on both sides of the camera, must be at least 18 years old. An account found to belong to someone younger is closed. If you think you are talking to someone under 18, end the call and report it: those reports are handled separately and referred to the authorities.

Before your first call: a short checklist

  1. Check what is visible behind you: mail, photos, a window with a recognisable view.
  2. Use a display name that is not your full name.
  3. Decide in advance what you will not share, and stick to it.
  4. Remember where Next, Leave and Report are. How it works shows each one.
  5. Trust the feeling. You never owe anyone a longer conversation.
